To increase our institutional capacity for diversity, equity and inclusion, training and educational programmes are provided to all staff, faculty, and students for enhancing knowledge, skills and capacity on topics related to advancing our goals for inclusive excellence.

Exhibition on Anti-Discrimination, Sexual Harassment and Inclusive Languages

This exhibition is organized annually with an aim to raise awareness about anti-discrimination and sexual harassment, as well as the use of inclusive language. All staff and students not only can learn about the four Hong Kong anti-discrimination ordinances and practical tips for prevention, but also how to use inclusive language to ensure everyone feels respected and valued.

E-Learning Training Modules on SEN, Disability and Equality in Higher Education

With the support from UGC Special Grants to Enhance the Support for Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), this e-learning training modules were launched with three online training modules to equip staff and students with the necessary knowledge and skills within the University. This is a joint-university initiative with collaborative efforts from local universities.

Breaking Down Barriers: How does Unconscious Bias Affect You?

This interactive workshop enables students to explore the concept of unconscious bias and its effects on the community. Participants will be able to learn how to recognize their own biases and how they can promote diversity and inclusion in both their personal and professional lives, and make a positive impact on the world around you.

This workshop helps students to develop a deeper understanding of diversity by exploring the benefits, opportunities, and challenges of diversity in HKUST context. Overall, they will learn how to enhance their cultural competency, appreciate and celebrate diversity, and learn how to better navigate diverse environments.

Online Training Module on Preventing Sexual Harassment

This online training module is developed by the Equal Opportunities Commission and jointly supported by eight tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. It aims to extend students’ knowledge on sexual harassment and give them practical steps to respond to, and appropriately intervene in incidences of, sexual harassment.
