Fun facts about Dragon’s Beard Candy (龍鬚糖)
First invented by a chef in the Imperial Court during Chinese's Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD), the confection was an invention for entertainment for the Emperor at the time. It soon became a food of the elite class after its introduction because of the complex skill required for the candy pulling process.
The traditional snack is usually made of sugar, peanuts, shredded coconut, sesame, malt syrup, and glutinous rice flour. The crafting art of the snack has become one of the street snacks and traditional Chinese sweets nowadays.
