To celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, the Diversity and Equal Opportunities Committee at HKUST would like to invite you to a panel discussion - how allyship is essential to accelerate action for diversity and inclusion in the workplace, community and beyond.  

Date: 6 March 2025
Time: 12:30 - 1:45 pm (Registration starts at 12:15 pm; light food and beverages will be provided.)
Venue: Tsang Shiu Tim Art Hall (next to Starbucks), HKUST Campus, Clear Water Bay 

Professor Kar Yan Tam, Vice-President for Administration and Business and Chair of Diversity and Equal Opportunities Committee at HKUST, will deliver welcome remarks.

It will be followed by a distinguished panel comprising of the following guest speakers: 

  • Tina Arcilla, Senior Manager, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, APAC, Manulife 

  • Prof Veronique A. Lafon-Vinais, Adjunct Associate Professor of Finance, School of Business & Management, HKUST

You will hear a panel of speakers from business community and from HKUST who will share personal insights and experience on: 

  • What is allyship and why is it important?  

  • What does it mean to be an ally to underrepresented groups with interconnected attributes in the workplace, at home and in the community?  

  • In the context of gender diversity and inclusion, how do we involve both men and women in the conversations and actions? 

  • What are the everyday actions each individual can do to achieve progress?

About the speakers

Tina Arcilla (she/her/hers), Senior Manager, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion APAC, Manulife 

Tina helps drive diversity, equity and inclusion at Manulife in Asia by empowering employees to play a role in creating a working environment where everyone is accepted, valued and included #UntilEachOneOfUsBelongs.  

 Tina was previously Head of Community Business’ Diversity and Inclusion in Asia Network (DIAN), where she also contributed to campaigns that tackle inequality in the workplace, co-authored and contributed to Asia-focused research and thought pieces, and provided training and advisory for companies. Prior to Community Business, she was a corporate governance advocate at the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) Philippines.

 

Prof Veronique A. Lafon-Vinais, Adjunct Associate Professor of Finance, School of Business & Management, HKUST

Veronique Lafon-Vinais is a seasoned financial market professional with over 20 years of banking and capital markets experience across the globe.  She has worked in all the major financial markets and has extensive experience in all the major debt and credit markets.

At HKUST’s Business School, Veronique is Adjunct Associate Professor of Finance; Co-Director of the BSc in Sustainable and Green Finance; Associate Director of the tri-degree World Bachelor in Business Program, and Project Director for the HKUST-NYU Stern MSc in Global Finance.

 

Jason Lui, Managing Director, Global Markets, BNP Paribas

As Markets 360 APAC Coordinator, Jason is responsible for coordinating joint economic and strategy research efforts and views in the region, across all asset classes and all countries, ensuring effective communication both internally and externally to our clients. He also works closely with sales management on a variety of client engagement events across APAC as well as regional and global roadshows for Markets 360 strategists and economists.  

In addition to his role as Markets 360 APAC Coordinator, Jason also serves as Head of Global Equities for Markets 360 APAC, leading his team to generate trade ideas, thematic views, and bespoke analyses for the APAC equity markets. He is actively involved in developing the equity derivatives market with major Asian exchanges by participating in exchange-hosted industry working groups and conference panel discussions.   

Jason is the Chair of MixCity Hong Kong, an internal employee network, with the objective of advancing gender equality within BNP Paribas. He is also a member of the Male Allies Leadership Council for the Male Allies program organized by the Women’s Foundation of Hong Kong.
